The Significance Of Immunization In Safeguarding Humanity

August 14, 2023

In a world filled with constant challenges, where every step seems unpredictable, safeguarding our health became a paramount responsibility. Before the introduction of the measles vaccine in 1963 and widespread vaccination, major epidemics occurred approximately every 2-3 years and caused an estimated 2.6 million deaths each year.

Also, Diseases like smallpox, polio, and measles were destroying communities and leaving many people permanently disabled and in some cases, even taking their lives. But then came immunization, and everything changed.

From the early use of variolation [The first method of Immunization] in China to the complete work of Edward Jenner, who developed the first smallpox vaccine, immunization has come a long way. Immunization works by using our body's natural defense mechanisms, Vaccines injected into the body weaken or inactivate versions of disease-causing agents, prompting the immune system to recognize and memorize these invaders. So that when the body system encounters these diseases later on, the immune system launches a swift and strong defense, effectively attacking the illness before it takes hold.

At first, people were skeptical of immunization, they didn't understand how it worked, and some believed it was dangerous or even unethical, but over time, more and more evidence emerged showing the safety and effectiveness of vaccines. As a result, immunization campaigns began to take off, and diseases that once threatened to kill millions of people were brought under control.

Over the years, scientific progress has gifted humanity with a powerful weapon, which is vaccines, protecting humans against a multitude of diseases, from polio to influenza.  But despite all the progress that has been made, there is still work to be done. Some communities, particularly those in developing countries, still lack access to essential vaccines, and even in places where vaccines are readily available, there are pockets of resistance caused by misinformation, fear, or distrust of the medical establishment. Through vaccination campaigns, everyone can have access to vaccines and all fear and doubt can be eradicated.

In the modern era, as global commerce and trade expand, ensuring the efficacy of temperature-sensitive products during transportation and storage becomes a critical challenge. At Figorr, we have taken up the role of providing real-time monitoring solutions to safeguard the integrity of vaccines and other temperature-sensitive medical supplies.

For Instance, during the turbulent times of Covid, we played a significant role in ensuring that covid19 vaccines were distributed across the 36 states in Nigeria including the Federal Capital Territory.

Figorr joined forces with Nigeria's National Primary Health Care Development Agency

(NPHCDA) to deliver an outstanding 4.2 million doses of Moderna COVID-19 with the help of our innovative technology. This collaboration not only safeguarded countless lives but also elevated Nigeria to a state of enhanced safety and well-being.
